Recruitment of the National Consultant to Produce GIS maps for the 6th National Report on Biodiversity of the Maldives to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)                                                                    

The government of the Republic of Maldives through the Ministry of Environment (ME) has received financial assistance from Global Environment Facility (GEF) administered by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) towards preparation of the Sixth National Report (6NR) on Biodiversity to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to which Maldives is party since 1992. 6NR is prepared under Article 26 of the Convention and Decision XIII/27 of the Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Scope of work under the contract includes production of GIS maps for the 6th National Report on Biodiversity to the Convention on Biological Diversity with the key components including, but not limited to:

  • Enhancing the existing Geographic Information System layers on Biodiversity;
  • Collect and analyze relevant biodiversity data and demarcate to produce comprehensive GIS maps with boundaries for the following components (resolutions to be agreed with Project Coordinator):

(a)    Wetlands and mangrove areas (within 2 weeks of the contract date)

(b)   Protected areas of Maldives (within 2 weeks of the contract date)

(c)   Environmentally Significant Areas (within 2 weeks of the contract date)

(d)   Reef Areas (within 2 weeks of the contract date)

(e)   Resource use of islands (eg: % of land for agriculture, urban area) (within 2 weeks of the contract date)

(f)    Use of reefs in Maldives (within 4 months of the contract date)

(g)   Changes in islands overtime (eg: desertification, shoreline dynamics, urbanization) (within 3 months of the contract date)

(h)   Island Boundaries (including Resorts, industrial islands, inhabited islands) (within 1 months of the contract date)

(i)     Any other relevant features that can be mapped to represent biodiversity related information of Maldives (within 4 months of the contract date)

  • The maps should be produced in GIS, pdf and photo formats

The Ministry of Environment is seeking an individual for a period of 04 months to provide consultancy service, to produce GIS maps for the 6th National Report of Maldives to CBD.

The Ministry of Environment now invites interested eligible consultants to submit their Proposals. Interested consultants must provide information that demonstrates ability to perform the services detailed in the Terms of Reference.

Interested consultants may obtain additional information and Terms of Reference from www.environment.gov.mv.

Bid Opening

Bids shall be delivered to the Ministry of Environment, on or before 1200 hours, Maldivian time on 3 March, 2019 at which time they will be opened in the presence of the individuals who submitted the Bids and wish to attend the Bid opening. Late Bids will be rejected.
