Request for Expressions of Interest

The Government of the Republic of Maldives has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Saafu Raajje - Maldives Clean Environment Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds for the services of a full-time Nine (9) Community Engagement Coordinators for the atolls specified in the table below. (One (01) Community Engagement Coordinator for each Atoll.)

The key objective for each of the local consultants as a Community Engagement Coordinator (Waste and Resource Management), will be to support the Atoll Council and Inhabited Islands and resorts within their assigned Atoll for implementing the “Fasgandu” Communication Tool Kit as part of the Waste Management IEC Campaign implemented by the Maldives Clean Environment Project, Ministry of Environment Climate Change, and Technology. The consultant will also support the Atoll council on the development and early implementation of their respective Atoll level waste management plan

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

To be eligible for consideration for this position, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

Prior work experience

  • Experience with team-building and managing people such as volunteers, staff, or students including on community outreach programs and events within the region.
  • Communication and community engagement experience
  • Work experience in utilizing local and traditional knowledge of the island communities and key community groups in waste management and natural resource management.

Inter-personal skills

  • Ability to organize and lead trainings, workshops and events, and organize community outreach programs
  • Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate people
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key community groups and community members
  • Flexible approach to work and a willingness to adapt to changing needs and requirements and manage multiple workstreams

Education and technical skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related writing and presentation software, use of social media platforms, design and production of print and digital campaigns/communication materials
  • Completion of a secondary school education with a basic knowledge of Waste Management & Environmental issues
  • Ability to communicate accurately and concisely (verbally and in written form) in English and Divehi.

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology thereby, invites interested individuals, who meet the requirements specified in the TORs to submit the following;

  • Letter of Expression of Interest (EOI)
  • Curriculum Vitae. The CV must contain all the past similar experiences in details
  • Attested copies of educational and professional certificates. Copies of the educational certificate shall be taken from the original accredited certificates.
  • Reference letters from previous employers
  • Copy of the National Identification Card.

Application by a current civil servant must accompany a letter from the applicant’s current employer stating no-objection of releasing him/her from the job.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.  

The successful candidate must understand the objectives and delivery mechanisms of the project’s portfolio. He/She will be flexible to emerging or changing conditions and undertake an initiative in his/her broad field of actions.
