Legal Counsel (Full Time)

Job Title:

To provide comprehensive legal services. The legal counsel will ensure compliance with national and international regulations governing football, especially those set by FIFA.

Job Summary:

Negotiable

Salary:

a) A bachelor’s degree in the field of law (LLB) from a

    Recognized institution.

b) Admission to practice law in the Maldives (qualified at the

     Maldivian Bar).

c) A minimum of three years of relevant experience in sports

    Law, contract law, or corporate governance.

d) Familiarity with FIFA regulations and international football

    Governance is highly desirable.

Educational Qualification:

a)    General Legal Counsel Work: Provide ongoing legal advice on various matters related to football governance, regulatory compliance, and operational issues.

b)   Contract Review: Analyze and review contracts related to sponsorships, partnerships, and other agreements to ensure they are legally sound.

c)    Document Preparation: Prepare necessary legal documents for court proceedings, including pleadings, motions, and briefs as required.

d)   Compliance Matters: Ensure compliance with local laws and international football governance regulations, including adherence to FIFA’s statutes and guidelines.

e)   Court Representation: Attend court hearings when necessary to represent FAM’s interests in legal matters.

f)     Policy Development: Assist in the development and review of internal policies and procedures to align with best practices in sports governance.

g) Dispute Resolution: Provide guidance on dispute resolution mechanisms and represent FAM in arbitration or mediation processes.

h)   Legal Training: Conduct training sessions for FAM staff on relevant legal issues, including contract management and compliance with football regulations.

i)  Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with governmental bodies, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to address legal issues affecting FAM.

j)  Research and Analysis: Conduct research on emerging legal trends in sports law and provide recommendations for FAM's strategic direction.

Scope of Work:  

a)   Timely legal opinions on various matters as requested by FAM.

b)  Comprehensive reviews of contracts within specified deadlines.

c)   Preparedness for court hearings with all necessary documentation.

d)   Regular updates on compliance issues related to both national laws and FIFA regulations.

e)  Drafted internal policies that reflect best practices in governance.

f)    Training materials and sessions conducted for staff on relevant legal topics.

Deliverables:

  • Reports to the General Secretary of FAM and will work closely with other members of the executive committee
