CENSUS 2014: FOR THE ATTENTION OF EMPLOYERS AND MIGRANT WORKERS

Census 2014 is a national initiative aimed at collecting important information on housing and population related conditions in the country. Census enumeration will be carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Under the Statistical Regulation of Maldives 2012 (R-4/2013) the National Bureau of Statistics is obliged, to keep individual level data on households, employers and employees, strictly confidential. The data collected will be used only for statistical purposes. Data collected during census on foreigners will not be used for any legal purpose. All individuals and employers are required to provide reliable information for the Census.

Therefore, information collected in census will not be shared with Department of Immigration and Emigration. Furthermore, the Department of Immigration gives its assurance to the employers and migrant workers that this department will not take any action with regard to information provided to the officials of census teams.

Department of Immigration and Emigration, hereby gives our assurance that the information provided for the Census will not be available to this Department and will not take any action base on that information,  regarding the foreign workers without proper legal documents and employers who employ such workers as far as census is concerned.

Hence, the Department of Immigration and Emigration request all the employers and migrant workers to extend full corporation to the National Bureau of Statistics.
